Kenny Florian Takes Back-to-Back Broadcasting Gigs at TUF 11 Finale and WEC 49
(MMAJunkie.com) Kenny Florian has a busy week ahead of him.
In addition to a training camp for an upcoming bout with Gray Maynard at UFC 118, Florian will assume color commentary duties at both The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale and WEC 49. Florian fills in for longtime UFC color commentator Joe Rogan at The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale, and he joins play-by-play announcer Todd Harris at the WEC broadcast table.
As always, veteran UFC commentator Mike Goldberg will take up play-by-play duties and share the broadcast booth for the UFC event.
“It’s seamless,” Goldberg said of working with Florian. “Kenny’s an outstanding broadcaster, and he understands the ebb and flow of a fight. Joe (Rogan) is my partner – he always has been, and always will be – but with Kenny, it’s just seamless. He’s naturally good at it.”
The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale takes place next Saturday, June 19, at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. According to Goldberg, Rogan had a scheduling conflict that forced him out of the Spike TV broadcast booth. He’ll return, though, for UFC 116 in July.
WEC 49, which airs on Versus, takes place the day after at Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Color-commentator duties previously went to UFC fighter Frank Mir, but he and the WEC recently split ways. WEC officials have not named a permanent replacement.
Two days prior to his TUF 11 Finale job, Florian serves his usual analyst role on another episode of “MMA Live.” The weekly MMA news show, which began as a broadband-only show on ESPN.com, is in its sixth week of cable TV syndication on ESPN2.
“Dude, it’s ridiculous,” Florian said of his busy schedule. “Training (comes) first and then everything (else) will come second. I’ll fit it in. “There aren’t too many of these weeks left.”
Florian (13-4 MMA, 11-3 UFC) is no stranger to the fight-night broadcast booth. In addition to his weekly “MMA Live” co-hosting duties, he commentated UFC 83’s pay-per-view broadcast as a fill-in for Rogan and worked alongside Harris at WEC 41.
